This is a classic sugar cookie recipe yielding a cookie that is soft and chewy and full of buttery-sweet flavor! This recipe is quick and easy and contains many ingredients you might already have in your pantry!
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla (you can also add other flavorings such as almond extract or lemon zest)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Using an electric hand mixer or whisk, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs, milk and vanilla and mix util well incorporated, scraping the bowl as needed.
Add flour, baking powder and salt and mix until incorporated. Turn out onto work surface and knead a few times until smooth.
Place dough between two pieces of parchment paper and roll out to desired thickness. Chill in freezer for 10 minutes (or refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 2 days if wanting to bake later)
Cut out cookies and place them on a parchment or silicone sheet lined pan. Bake for 10-15 minutes, turning once half way through. They are done when the edges have just started to lightly turn golden brown.
