Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla (you can also add other flavorings such as almond extract or lemon zest)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp milk

blank

  • Hand Mixer

  • Mixing Bowl

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Using an electric hand mixer or whisk, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs, milk and vanilla and mix until well incorporated, scraping the bowl as needed.

  3. Add flour, baking powder and salt and mix until incorporated. Turn out onto work surface and knead a few times until smooth.

  4. Place dough between two pieces of parchment paper and roll out to desired thickness. Chill in freezer for 10 minutes (or refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 2 days)

  5. Cut out cookies and place them on a parchment or silicone sheet-lined pan. Bake for 10-15 minutes, turning once half way through. They are done when the edges have just started to turn golden brown.
