This spice mix hinges on the use of ancho powder. Ancho chili powder is made from 100% ground, dried, and roasted poblano peppers. It has a sweet, smoky, and earthy flavor with mild heat. Chili powder is a spice blend; it will not work for this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup ancho powder
- 6 tbsp ground coriander
- 4 tbsp paprika
- 4 tbsp dry mustard
- 3 tbsp Mexican oregano
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp chile de arbol
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
Directions
Whisk together all spices in a bowl. Transfer to a container with a tight-fitting lid. It will keep in your pantry for up to 6 months.
