Granted, habaneros are hot, but you'll be able to tamp down the heat if you remove all seeds before chopping.

Mango Habanero Hot Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp canola oil

  • 1 small Spanish onion, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 2 large ripe mangoes, peeled, pitted and chopped
  • 3-4 habanero chiles, chopped

  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • Honey, to taste

  • Squeeze of lime juice
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Heat oil in medium saucepan. Add onion and garlic and cook until soft.

  2. Add mango and habanero and orange juice or water and cook until the mango begins to soften and break down, about 20 minutes.

  3. Stir in vinegar and salt and cook for a minute more.

  4. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth, taste for sweetness. If the mango is not that flavorful, add honey a teaspoon at a time.

  5. Add lime juice and salt to taste. If too thick, add a few splashes of cold water and blend again.

  6. Serve with chips or on proteins.
